| Surrey & Sussex | October ride. Start: Horley at 10:00. 40 miles, A. Starting in Victoria road car park, RH6 7AS. Stat (and finish) at Victoria Road car park, Horley, RH6 7AS, at 1000. A shade under 40 miles. There should be traces of Mafeking, the Festival of Britain, Spike Milligan, Edward VIII, a fort, an aeroplane and a chapel that was once a guardhouse. | Thameswey | Bob & Karon's ride Saturday ride. Start: Starbucks in Sainsbury’s in Tadley S at 09:30 to leave by 10:45. 24 miles, A. Lunch Pub is the Vine at Hannington, I hope to arrive by 1.00pm. Bob needs menu choices by first thing Tuesday 13th absolute latest please, as the pub doesn't usually do this menu on Saturdays - it's been arranged for us. Meet at Starbucks in Sainsbury's in Tadley SATURDAY 17th. Opens 7am. Karon and I will be there about 9:30. Leave 10.45. First half of the ride is reasonably flat until we reach the hills on the outskirts of Basingstoke. Most climbs are long and easy rather than stiff, 1,295 feet in all -but after lunch there is one that will make you regret any second helping of sticky toffee pudding. The payback is some lovely views along the ridge past Watership Down. Care needs to be taken please, crossing the A340 and A339 with fast traffic. The ride is on the club website (with GPX file) and on RideWithGPS. The ride starts from Blake End Craft Centre (CM77 6SH) which is between Gt Dunmow and Braintree. There is plenty of free parking at the centre and also a good cafe - The Grain Shed- for coffee and snack before the ride. We will also have lunch there at the end of the ride as there are very few other venues. We will have to pre-book a table as they get busy, but no need to pre-order.
